Born and raised in Gisborne, Lauren Grout graduated from the University of Waikato with a Master of Music with First Class Honours and a Post Graduate Diploma under the tutelage of Luca Manghi. During her tertiary studies, Lauren received 2nd Place in the University Concerto Competition on three occasions and competed in the ROSL Arts International Chamber Music Competition.
Lauren has had many competition successes. She won the tertiary section and the Best Performance of a New Zealand Work in the 2013 New Zealand Woodwind Competition. Lauren was a semi-finalist at the 2015 Australian Flute Festival Competition and a finalist at the 2017 Australian Flute Festival, and the only New Zealand based competitor to reach both rounds.
More recently, Lauren travelled to France to study at the Tignes International Summer School under the tutelage of Professor Vincent Lucas. Lauren is currently a casual player for various New Zealand orchestras.
